Limestone District School Board

对不起,此内容只适用于English。
The Limestone District School Board in Kingston, Ontario, Canada has been offering international students the opportunity to experience Canadian education and lifestyle since 1974.
International students from grades 5 – 12 are welcomed in our 54 elementary schools and 11 high schools. Students from around the world come for one semester, a year, or longer. They will experience a safe, welcoming city but also they can take advantage of the schools in a Board that the Ontario Provincial Education Improvement Commission has described as ‘stunningly successful’.
Two of our high schools offer an ESL program that integrates the student’s learning of English with the other academic subjects. Guidance counselors who have knowledge of other education systems, and teachers with experience help our new students to develop the language and academic skills necessary to be successful in many of Canada’s finest universities.
Short term programs are available for both elementary and secondary students.
International students like our schools because there are not a lot of students from their home country. They like Kingston because it is safe, yet the big cities of Toronto and Montreal are close.

Location
The Limestone District School Board serves students in and about the City of Kingston, a diverse and welcoming community of 120,000 people. Located on the shore of Lake Ontario in central Canada, Kingston is a blend of 19th century history with all the luxuries of a “Big City” yet the security and comfort of a small town. It is a short trip by car, train or air from the major cities of Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.
Kingston is home to the prestigious Queen’s University, the Royal Military College and St. Lawrence College. As such, there are extensive post secondary opportunities for our graduates.
Known as the “Limestone” City, Kingston offers numerous premier attractions including 17 historic museums, 5 Performing Arts venues, and many festivals. Known as the ‘fresh water sailing capital of the world’, there are many opportunities to experience sailing, canoeing, windsurfing plus traditional Canadian sports such as hockey, baseball, and football.
Kingston has been deemed to be one of the top Canadian cities to live in by Money Sense Magazine. As such, we offer the opportunity to live in one of Canada’s oldest and most beautiful cities.
Accommodation
We provide international students a unique opportunity to live with a Canadian host family. We believe that this is an ideal way to learn about Kingston and Canada and to improve one’s English.
A good homelife is essential if a student is to do well at school. Therefore, we operate our own homestay program so that there is good communication between all aspects of the student’s life in Canada.
Our homestay coordinators check each home and host family. They screen each family with interviews, and police checks. We check each home to ensure that it is clean and meets safety standards.
Our homestay personnel will check with students and homestays regularly. They provide ongoing support to international students, host families and schools.
For more detailed information about homestay, please visit our website – www.studykingston.com and click on homestay. In particular, please look at the student handbook, and also at the homestay family handbook. They give everybody a good idea of what is provided and required to make the student’s time in Kingston an enjoyable experience.
Activities
We believe that whether a student comes to Canada to improve their English or to experience a new culture, it is important to take advantage of the many activities that are offered at all of our schools and in our community.
Schools offer a wide range of clubs such as chess, skiing, debating, school government, drama, yearbook, et cet. Also, international students are encouraged to participate on school teams including basketball, soccer, volleyball, badminton, track and field, cross country running and rugby.
All high schools offer music courses but also give students the chance to play in the school band, or participate in school musicals.
Many other sports such as tennis, swimming, hockey, curling and sailing are offered through local sports clubs. We can help arrange a student’s participation in these activities.
Many of our local students join the Family Y as it provides not only an opportunity to participate in sports but to meet Canadian students.
Kingston and Limestone Schools have many extra curricular opportunities for international students. Getting involved in these activities will ensure a complete education.
