Edmonton Public Schools

Edmonton Public Schools has offered an International Student Program since 1995 and each year, serves between 300 and 400 students from all over the world. It features the provincial curriculum with Canadian peers as well as English as a second language (ESL) programming for those whose first language is not English. The ESL program is designed for students who wish to improve their English language skills in a friendly, yet challenging atmosphere. Communication skills through reading, writing, listening and speaking are emphasized as students are introduced to the rules and principles of the English language.
International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs are in place for more academically capable students. Advanced, university level subjects are common; students receive credit for exceptional performance in these subjects that can be applied towards entry into post-secondary institutions worldwide.
While there are many opportunities for students to participate in various sports at the school and inter school level, there are also Sports Alternative Programs available for more elite athletes who wish to pursue their individual sport, while still keeping up with their academic studies. The academic programming provided for elite athletes facilitates their training and participation in competitions by providing flexible scheduling of their courses of study. Sports pursued by such students include: dance, fencing, tennis, alpine skiing, golf, soccer and hockey training.
