The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is a faith based system of education located in the southern most region of Canada. The program will be open to students from K-12 and our students will be placed at one of two high schools or one of two elementary schools, in order to provide students with their choice of an urban or rural experience. Our schools offer a full range of extracurricular activities, english second language training, french immersion, an international baccalaureate program, and so much more!

Ontario students consistently rank among the best in the world, which is a reflection of high academic standards, dedicated teachers and administrators, and a large investment in education. As impressive as Ontario students have been, the students of the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School consistently perform above the provincial average.

We are committed to building a program where students will feel safe and comfortable. We therefore offer a homestay program where students and host families are pre-screened to match students with families based upon compatibility. It is important to us that students are provided with a superior education, but it is equally important that they are provided with an enriching experience that they will remember forever. Each student will be assigned to a teacher to track their emotional, social, and academic well-being. As well, there will be opportunities to meet other students through an orientation night, buddy programs, field trips, etc.

Location

The Windsor-Essex region is located along the banks of the Detroit River in Southwestern Ontario. In fact, it happens to be the most southern region in all of Canada at 42 degrees north latitude, a location it shares with such hot spots as Rome, Italy and San Francisco, California. But a moderate climate is not the only thing we have to boast about. We are located in the center of North America, which means that we are central to everything you could possibly hope to experience during your time with us. With cities such as Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, New York, Washington, Boston and so many others within driving distance, there will be no shortage of opportunities for you to explore. Because of our proximity to Detroit, Windsorites enjoy a wealth of culture, sporting events, and shopping that are only offered in a large city, yet return home to the safety and security that a smaller city offers. Add to this a beautiful riverfront and city parks and you have a wonderful city to call home during your stay.

Accommodation

It is important to us that your homestay experience is every bit as memorable as the time that you spend at school. It for this reason that we invest considerable time and effort into the process of finding a host family that will provide a safe and comfortable environment during your time abroad, with the expectation that you become an extension of their family during your stay.

Our host families are carefully screened with criminal background checks, home visits, and personality inventories to determine if they are a good match for you. We recruit our host families from within the school boundary that you will be located so that you develop a strong connection to the community within which you will be living. However, our commitment to finding you a good home does not stop once you have been placed, instead, we maintain a continuous line of communication between the school and the home to ensure that our students are being well cared for.

Activities

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board is an exciting place to learn with an array of extra curricular activities that will keep you busy. If sports interest you, then how about a full spectrum of athletic teams. We encourage you to try-out for one of our many athletic teams which include football, hockey, baseball, volleyball, track and field, badminton, curling, wrestling, etc.

If you are not interested in sports, then do not worry as our schools have plenty of other activities to be excited about. Are you into the Arts? Because, we have school bands, drama programs, dance clubs, art clubs, etc. In fact, there is something for everyone, whether it be the environmental club or student government, our schools are equipped to appeal to a wide variety of interests. And we haven't even mentioned the school dances, field trips, pep rallies, etc., that will help you catch some school spirit.
