Located among pristine natural beauty, the South Peace region offers the very best in outdoor pursuits. International students have lots of opportunity to discover our beautiful region with their host families and on class trips.
Our academic program offers students (age 15-18) an opportunity to continue their high school education while immersed in an English-speaking, northern Canadian culture. While studying with us, students receive personal attention and exceptional instruction.
Our school district is located in northeast British Columbia (approximately 1000km northeast of Vancouver). We have three high schools to choose from, each centrally located in a picturesque community. Each school has qualified, well trained teachers who provide outstanding education. Our staff are supportive and care about the well-being and success of each student.
In addition to academic programs, our district features a rustic outdoor education centre that caters to international groups. At the outdoor centre, students can discover pristine Canadian wilderness and develop new skills in climbing, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing and many more!

Location
International students can live and study in one of three South Peace communities situated among beautiful British Columbia scenery. Our communities of Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge are small, safe and very welcoming to international students. Our residents are eager to share Canadian culture and activities with visitors. There is a secondary school located within each of the communities and all the amenities are easily accessible.
Dawson Creek is the largest community with 12,000 residents. The city welcomes international students and takes pride in providing visiting students with a memorable experience. Students seeking to broaden their cultural horizons will find a comfortable home in Dawson Creek.
Chetwynd is a truly “Canadian” town of 3,100 residents. The four seasons combined with virgin forests, rolling hills, snow-capped mountains and clear lakes and rivers make Chetwynd a playground for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. Chetwynd is near to four provincial parks, two lakes and several recreational trails for hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and snowmobiling.
Tumbler Ridge is the most recently built community in Canada offering modern living in a magnificent wilderness setting. The community flourishes in all seasons and offers great activities for visitors and residents. Hiking trails lead to unforgettable beauty: alpine meadows ablaze with wildflowers, towering glaciated peaks, forested valleys, newly discovered dinosaur fossils and thundering waterfalls.
Accommodation
Our homestay program is a great way to experience Canadian culture in a supportive setting. Our host families are carefully screened and selected to ensure a safe and positive environment for the visiting student. International students are welcomed as part of the family and are encouraged to participate in family activities and outings. Our homestays are in nice houses in both urban and rural settings. Homestays will provide:

• Meals and snacks
• Transportation to and from local airport
• Parenting, guidance and support
• Internet access
• Inclusion in family trips and activities
Host parents are native English speakers and provide a terrific opportunity for students to learn about Canadian culture and lifestyle. Homestays provide a safe and relaxing environment for students to practice their English. Parents of international students can feel confident that their children are well cared for and in a safe and comfortable household. There are guidelines students and host families must follow while participating in the homestay program.
Activities
The Peace Region is full of activities to satisfy all students’ interests. The communities of Dawson Creek, Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge offer fantastic opportunities to pursue sports, arts and recreation.
Dawson Creek has a newly built aquatics centre that features a water park, Olympic size swimming pool and indoor rock-climbing wall. Sporting venues are scattered throughout with several ice rinks for hockey, speed skating, figure skating, curling, and courts for ball hockey, volleyball, basketball and soccer.
As winter approaches in the north, many people head outdoors with their skis and snowshoes. Cross country skiing is available throughout the region; most notably is the Bear Mountain Nordic Ski Club that offers several kilometers of groomed cross country ski trails near Dawson Creek. Powder King is a famous ski and snowboard retreat only an hour’s drive from Chetwynd. Tumbler Ridge is located in the rocky mountain foothills and offers some of the same breath-taking outdoor experiences as Banff – without the crowds.
If you plan on spending some time in the studio, working on dance performances or artistic projects, the newly built Calvin Kruk Centre for the arts is the place for you! This fabulous plaza offers a ceramics and fabric studio and multiple rooms designated to the advancement of dance and music.
Indoors and out, our communities offer a great choice of activities for all seasons.
