Grande Yellowhead Public School Division is very large and diverse, and stretches from the capital city of Edmonton, west to the Canadian Rockies and Jasper National Park, and north to the picturesque town of Grande Cache. We are a rural school division that features five distinct communities. Our communities range in size from towns of 1000 to 10,000 people. Evansburg, a farming area, is our smallest community of 1000 people, and is one hour from Edmonton. Edson, has 10,000 people, situated midway between Edmonton and Jasper National Park. Hinton, the Gateway to the Rockies, has a population of 10,000 and is 45 minutes from the
mountains. Grande Cache has 4000 people and is situated in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies and is 5 hours from Edmonton. Jasper, a community of 5000, is located in Jasper National Park, a popular tourist destination and World Heritage Site. Our rural communities are small, safe and friendly. Students either walk to school, ride their bikes, or take school buses. Our district offers international students the opportunity to experience rural living with several options of life style from living on a farm, or in a small rural town, or in a mountain community.
